Different Play Schemes in the Blinds

Considering the blinds may help us win some pots. Many players aim after the blinds bets.

The blinds may also be a bit profitable. But there are situations where even pros lose considerable sum of money with the blinds. Thus, if we have the option to pass on the blinds bets, we do so with alacrity.

For instance, we have this option: playing 9 hands per round where each round we place $30 in the blinds or, playing 6 hands per round and just spend $20 on a blind, and then two bettors likewise place a bet on the blind with $30. Whenever we do this we come out having the second best position. If we are able to execute this second option and other players cannot, we'd stand out formidable in the hand.

Consider a common round with a 20/40 poker game where we have 9 hands played in every position. We place $30 on blinds when not in position. Then consider also playing from behind the button without having to place any bet on the blind. Clearly, the free blinds bet is the better option. Having 6 hands for free pre-betting the big bind is a lot better than merely placing bets on the big blind.

An attractive profit from a 20/40 poker game is some $9 per round, and something like 36 hands each hour of play. Then we place a nice big wager per hour. It's like having a buck per hand. Such is a small amount to invest as against the blinds bet amount. Remember, the blinds are very crucial in poker. Ignoring the advantage in position when we post behind the button (instead of posting ahead of it), plus the edge when we post the same, we still have a $-20 cost in posting during the cut-off.

It isn't likely that a bettor with a dollar per hand play would opt to place $10 just to have two hands, which is the small blind and the button. There's simply no sense in having the big blind than opting to post. Having the big blind in this sense is useless. It's simply throwing away money, nothing more.

Aside from thinking of position we also have to think that in a sense we are placing $20 in a pot which has a $-10 amount already in it. The other situation has $30 already in the pot and we're adding in $20.

Every situation when in the blinds ought to be fully covered. Then we choose the better alternative.
